Greetings from NY: Meeting New Co-Workers in MD!

Hello again StellaBella Fans!  I know my posts have been far & few between lately - but I have been taking care of business.  After 10 long years working for The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation - I accepted a new position at The Ellison Medical Foundation; as Program Manager, Grants Administration and Scientific Review.  What does my day job have to do with StellaBella, you might ask?  Well, I can't help but bring my own unique flavor to the table no matter what the situation!

The EMF is moving a portion of its operations to NYC, and I was the first strategic hire.  Before Thanksgiving, my Executive Director and I drove down to Maryland, so I could meet the 2 women who work for the EMF there.  I was very excited to meet  my new co-workers, face-to face and get to know them.  Since they will be my go-to for any questions coming my way in the near future - of course, I wanted to make a StellBella first impression...

Believe it or not; my wonderful, business driven boyfriend, Big Ronnie comes from a very creative family.  His fabulous mother, Roxanne was Brooklyn's very own Balloon Event Expert!  This small business owner created arches, center pieces, wall decorations, heart and star shapes, pretty much anything you could think of - for numerous events throughout the city for over 15 years.  Looking through the past events on her Balloons By Roxanne  page, there are so many BIG events she decorated!  The Stop the Violence rally featuring Salt-n-Pepa in 1997 had to be EPIC.  Just sayin'.

Roxanne makin' Gift Bag MAGIC!

The weekend before my trip, when I mentioned putting together 2 NYC-themed gift bag for my trip to MD - she knew exactly what to do.  I brought the following items, (in duplicate) to her house & we got creative!  Each gift included the following:

  • I <3 NY mug
  • I <3 NY chocolate bar
  • I <3 NY pen
  • Butter+Love cookies
  • Brooklyn Nets lanyard & fan wrist band

Roxanne had all of the ribbon trimmings, fillers, and cellophane - but she taught me that the most important tool for creating a gift bag is an unlimited supply of 3M clear Scotch tape!  Getting each piece secured tightly is important, especially when traveling with the packages.  I added to the base, piece by piece.  The height of everything sticking out of the coffee mug, almost seemed silly at first, but then I realized "Bigger is always Better"!

We had a lot of fun putting these together, and they were well received!  Although I think my co-workers didn't have as much fun opening the gift up!  The good thing about Scotch tape; it won't ruin anything that was included, and eventually comes off.  Those BRAND NEW Concord Grape Walnut cookies will taste just fine!  This project was a really great warm-up for me with the Holidays around the corner...

Gift Wrap Season here I come!
